Though Sikh is gender-neutral, Sikhni is used as slang for womenfolk. This is acceptable. Its use represents that Sikh women are asserting their dignity of being a Sikh.
Probably it has come as rhyming to Sardarni.
Both male and female are Sikh. Better not to create any new distinction or confusion for future.
More appropriate will be Singh and Singhian. The same is being used in Ardas also.
