Of course, it is OK to listen to PAATH but you would benefit only when you understand it and apply it in your life. Meaning live your life in accordance with the message of the Gurbani. Otherwise, it is just a ritual.
One purpose it does serve is that if you continue this practice, some day you might question yourself about what you are listening to and have the desire to learn the meaning.

It is just like you are listening to your teacher in the class but not understanding it. Keep Listening but try to understand which would be through reading and applying in your life.

That is why it is important for all Sikhs to know to read and understand Punjabi .

Jap – 2
We have to recite, listen and understand Gurbani so that we can apply the teachings of Gurbani in our practical life. Then only can reduce our sorrows and have a pleasant and comfortable life.
You can learn the Gurmukhi alphabet in a week. Then you can learn reading in just one month. Slowly you can develop your understanding for Punjabi.
Initially you can try without understanding, but with time one can develop the habit of understanding also.
It is always better to get information from the direct source, i.e. Guru Granth Sahib. Information through other sources usually gets contaminated.
It always good to listen and get information from other articles and sources. For better understanding it is always better to cross check and verify for better understanding.

Transformation in your life will happen when you will understand the message of Gurbani. Your inner world and the outer world will interact at a different level and you will see your life from a different angle.

As already explained by the scholars, if you neither understand Punjabi nor know the meanings, then it is like hearing Greek accompanied with nice music ! It is sheer waste of time, and is not the aim of life at all.

You should ask someone to try and explain line by line, or download some App where Gurbani is translated into English for understanding it. Also make efforts to learn Gurmukhi. Meanwhile, read Gurbani written in Romans, alongwith its meanings written in English.

As a matter of fact, most devotees do not understand the proper meanings of the Akand Paths or of the Kirtan, and visit Gurdwara just as a ritual.
