      Respected Jez Singh Ji;
      The focus of Sikhi is a way of life. The Sikhi promotes a a life of a SACHIAR (based on truth).
      Is Sikhi an independent, sovereign religion, the answer is yes from Sikh point of view. But if someone doesn’t agree with it, that is their opinion and let it be. I am not sure if it matters for a person who wishes to be a Sikh, i.e. live a Sikhi way of life based on the truth. By the way, that is why a Sikh needs to read and understand Message of Gurbani enshrined in SGGS.

      Sikhi is a way of life to become Sachyaar, by understanding and following the Hukam of Akal Purkh, with the help of Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhi is neither a ritual religion like others and nor a philosophy of theory only. Gurmat teaches us the practical way of life.
      ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਸਿਕਤਾ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਦੇਣ ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿਤਾ। ਧਰਮ ਜਾਂ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਉਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਚਾਈ ਤੇ ਚਲਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ।
      “ਸਭੇ ਸਾਝੀਵਾਲ ਸਦਾਇਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਜੀਉ”
      ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਤੇ ਚਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਬਲ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲ੍ਹਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾਂ ਹੈ। ਫੋਕੀਆਂ ਰਵਾਇਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਸਥਿੱਤੀ ਕਮਜੋਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਸਾ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ।
      ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਭ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰੀਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੋਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
      ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੀਤ ਚਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਾਲੀ ॥ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (੬੬੭)
