No, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was not a coward and he didn’t run away from the battle of Chamkaur Sahib. A father, who can send his young sons to the battlefield and see them dying, how he can run away from the battlefield? He had shown his clear intention to be in the battlefield next day but five Sikhs sat together and decided to give him orders to leave the Garhi at Chamkaur Sahib. Guru Sahib had no option but to accept the orders of Guru Panth. He, however, didn’t leave the Garhi silently but announced in a loud voice and left. The Mughals ran here and there but couldn’t make out that Guru Sahib had left. It became clear to them in the morning that he had left the Garhi. Later, he wrote a letter (Zafarnama) to Aurangzeb in which he brought out his black deeds and showed him the mirror. It is said that, after reading the letter, Aurangzeb was so much disturbed that he wanted to meet Guru Sahib and made arrangements for the meeting. Guru Sahib also wanted to meet him but before that could be possible, Aurangzeb died. It is unthinkable that Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, who, all his life, fought bravely with Hindu hill kings and Mughals, will ever run away from the battlefield, like a coward. This thought should never come to one’s mind. Please read the history.

Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj was the bravest of the brave. He sacrificed his father and then his four sons for the sake of righteousness. He taught us to be fearless and face tough situations with full courage. His courage is the most inspiring and brings light to many lives.
