"For the past five years, I have been dedicated to my Amritdhari practices, regularly reciting my Banis. However, I find myself grappling with the question of how I will attain true union with the Satguru."

In response to your question about true union with the Satguru, the undersigned is giving below a Shabad of Fifth Guru Person, Guru Arjun Sahib, which is located at Panna 394 of Guru Granth Sahib, in which he is guiding us that the Satguru (Shabad Guru) is always with me and due to his kindness (Updesh i.e.teachings) Akalpurakh is also always with me, implying that I am one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are spiritually embodiment of each other:-

ਆਸਾ ਘਰੁ ੭ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਤਰਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ॥੨॥੪੨॥੯੩॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 394}

ਅਰਥ: (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।1।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ (ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।1।
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਵਸਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।2। 42। 93।

Further, please read the following stanza from Baani Sukhmani:-

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਪੇਖੁ ॥ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥ ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਤਰੰਗ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੰਗ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਹੁ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਹੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 295}

ਅਰਥ: (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ, ਤੇ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦੰਮ-ਬ-ਦੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ, (ਤਾਂ ਜੁ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਨਿੱਤ ਨਾਹ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਮੰਗ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪੀ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਲੈ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ।1।

Now coming to doing Paath, one can recite any number of Paaths but the main requirement is to make one’s life/deeds spotless/unsullied (ਨਿਰਮਲ) with the help of teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

To support this, the undersigned wants to say that when first Guru Person Guru Nanak Sahib went to Middle East during one of his Udasis (ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਫੇਰੀਆਂ), he was asked a question by religious persons ( ਕਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ/ਮੁਲਾਂ) that he should open the book, he was carrying, and tell them that between Hindus and Muslims, who was more important in the eyes of God. Guru Nanak Sahib’s reply was that without good deeds both will come to grief. Bhai Gurdas ji has written:-

ਪੁਛਣ ਖੋਲ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਕੀ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੋਈ।। ਬਾਬਾ ਆਖੇ ਹਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰੋਈ।।

Further, Fifth Guru Person, Guru Arjan Sahib, has written in Sukhmani Sahib:-

ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਧਰਮੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮੁ ॥ (ਪੰਨਾ 266)

ਅਰਥ: (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ (ਤੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਚਰਣ (ਬਣਾ) = ਇਹ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ।

So, you can very well see that the Satguru and Akalpurakh are always with us and teach us to get rid of vices, become righteous/virtuous persons and achieve the stage of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ), so as to finally achieve spiritual emancipation/ salvation in this life itself (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ).
