Does ‘fate’ or ‘kismat’ really exist? Kismat Luck according to Gurbani

Being a Sikh should I believe in Kismat? or do we write our own kismat?

      No. We create our own Kismat (destiny). What we sow so shall we reap

      ਗੁਰੂ ਗਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ, “ਕਿਸਮਤ” ਜਾਂ “ਕਿਸਮਤਿ” ਸਬਦ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤੇ ਰਜਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
      In the Guru Granth Sahib, the word “Kismat” is never used. Therefore according to Gurbani nothing happens with luck or Kismat, everything happens according to our deeds and Hukam and Raza of Akal Purakh.
      “ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥” (੧)
      ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਾਰਜ ਭਾਂਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਤਲ ਤੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਤਲ ਤੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚਲੀਏ, ਜਾਂ ਅਪਣੀ ਮਨਮਤਿ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚਲੀਏ, ਨਤੀਜੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋਣੇ ਹਨ।
      Every action of the world, whether it is at the physical level or at the mental level, is all under the Hukam of Akal Purakh, i.e according to the system created by Akal Purkh. Whether we follow the Hukam of Akal Purakh, or follow our own Manmat, the results will be according to our deeds.
      ਕਰਮੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥ (੭)
      ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
      Nothing is going to happen according to Kismat. We have to rectify our deeds according to Gurmat.
