They believe my my ill health will improve then.

Sikhism does not believe that by donating money any problem can be solved in your life. Sikhism believes that the root cause of our problems is our Haumai ( our distinct identity or our separateness from this universe). When we believe in the principle of the oneness of this universe and see our connection with the universe, our perspective of life changes. Looking at your life from a different angle and by attaining divine virtues your mind will become peaceful and your health can improve.
Pilgrimages, austere discipline, compassion, and charity –
these, by themselves, bring only an iota of merit.
Listening and believing with love and humility in your mind,
cleanse yourself with the Naam, at the sacred shrine deep within.

Please note that any type of donation is not going to help unless it is analysed properly and is for a good cause.
We can improve our health by raising our mental level with the help of Gurbani written in Guru Granth Sahib.
