If one spouse does paath regularly, does it benefit the other as well, since marriage is the union of two souls? I have done much more paath than my wife and hope she has now merged with Waheguru. Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Following is according to my understanding
If one spouse does regular Paath and understands the meaning of bani like a book, that one person can make better decisions, can handle their anger and can come up with better solutions most of the times, so at the end, that in turn, do help the other spouse.
On the other hand, all those things (anger, poor decision making, bad situation management skill) of the other spouse can cause trouble if they don’t understand bani and do daily Nitnem themselves (varies person to person).
Think of it like exercise or workout, if one person does that, it will release his/her stress hormones and keep him calm and sharp minded but won’t directly effect the other.
Hope you get my point, and I haven’t made it complicated
Respected Brother/Sister,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
In response to your question, the undersigned wants to say that In Sikhism ‘marriage (ਵਿਆਹ)’ is called ‘Anand Karaj (ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ) and significant spiritual and religious importance is attached to this act.
It is not merely a physical and legal contract but a sacrament, a union of two souls. The spiritual goal of any Sikh is to merge his or her soul (ਆਤਮਾ) with Akalpurakh and in marriage, the couple vows to help each other towards this goal.
Guru Amar Daas Jee in Raag Soohee highlights this required Unity as follows: –
Thus Anand Karaj is a means to learn helping each other, to attain together a balanced life of self-fulfillment, Spiritual Upliftment and Self-knowledge, leading to a purposeful life.
As per teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, the importance of family life is that both husband and wife become Gurmukhs and live their lives, as per teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.
Therefore, each one has to change his/her life, get rid of vices (or control the vices), become righteous/virtuous (ਸਚਿਆਰ/ਗੁਣਵਾਨ) i.e. Gurmukh (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) and spiritually become one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are spiritually embodiment of each other so as to reach the state of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ). The final goal is to achieve spiritual emancipation/salvation in this life itself
Therefore, just doing Paath by husband or wife will not help the other partner and each one has to change his/her life and make his/her life a success.
Further, the husband and wife together have a responsibility to try their best to ensure that their children also become Gurmukhs, so that the life of children also becomes successful.
Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same for improvement in future.
Regards,
Your Brother
According to my understanding, everybody is on their own path while treading the spiritual journey. As husband and wife create a life together they can help each other to attain higher spiritual goals as company does matter. We do learn a lot from the people with whom we are associated if we have the approach of learning.
