Diwali ???? also known as Bandi chor divas is coming up soon.
In schools children are mostly taught about Ram & Sita.
How should Sikhs celebrate this festival?
How should we explain to our next generations so they can know the true meaning of Bandi chor divas?

Thank you for asking very pertinent question.
It is very confusing for Sikhs when inaccurate information is distributed from the Sikhi Center of Akal Takht, Amritsar.
First there is no reference to the Bandi Chhor Divas in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bani.
As for the date of release of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib from the Gwaliar Prison, is in December and according to Mool Nanakshahi Calendar, the date of arrival in Amritsar is February 12.
Then as for Divali, it is mentioned in Sikh History that Guru Sahibs started to have Sikh gatherings on Vaisakhi and Divali occasions for the sake of sharing Gurbani messages.
Sikhi preaches lighting of the inner lamps, not outside lights. Deep Malaa, or out side lamps/lights, are temporary and are gone by the morning, but inner lights are permanent and give one everlasting joy.
