Yes, the concept of VAND CHHAKNA come from the Guru Nanak Sahib’s Gurbani verse:
ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥ (ਮ:੧, ਪੰ:੧੨੪੫)
Meaning: The one who earns his living by working hard for it, and shares his earnings, says Nanak that person has recognized the way to live.
I am unable to find the saying “VAND CHHAKNA” in Bani enshrined in SGGS. It seems to have come into practice after Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji times, when someone coined the three principles of Sikhi to be: 1) Kirt Karna, 2) Vand Chhakna, and 3) Naamu Japna. However, the three leave out most important precepts of Sikhi namely, 1) SACCH ACHAAR, 2) SABH NAAL PIYAAR, and 3) SARBAT DI SEVA.
Thank you
There is no word Wand Chakna in Guru Granth Sahib. This is self created.
Wand means, if there are 2 persons, then share as 50%. if 4 then 25% each, if 100 then 1% each, and so on. This is practically impossible when number is large.
The following Shabad of Guru Nanak Sahib is
ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥- 1245
This Shabad is for those have made Dharam as their source of income. They should work themselves and share a part of their income.
Historically Dhaswand was common, I e. 10% contribution for the welfare, which seems to be practical.
Thank you
