The answer to your question is resounding Yes.
There is no such reference in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, for the requirement of the Singh being part of the name for a Sikh.
Sikhi is a way of life. If you live the message of Bani enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib you would be a Sikh. It would automatically mean that you will not have faith in any philosophy as they require certain ritualistic activities which Sikhi believes are of no value.
The name Singh is essential when on takes KHANDAY DI PAHUL, which is essential to be a KHALSA. Khanday Di Pahul is not essential to be a Sikh.
