Character Development Aspects for living a blissful life:
Why don’t we have a blissful life?
” We are separated from the One God (Akal Purakh), ” is the answer to this riddle that we get from Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS).
Where is that God?

ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaN gur parsaad.
As per SGGS, God is one eternal, existentially true, creator, all pervading, neither afraid of anything nor discriminate, neither affected by time nor take birth and death, self-illuminated, self-existent and can be realised by grace of Guru.
If God is omnipresent, dwells in me and in all of you, then why don’t we feel Him in ourselves?
According to Guru Sahib a “a notional wall of falsehood” has been erected between my mind (MANN) and God. This false wall of: Lust, anger, greed, attachments, arrogance, slander,
laziness, lying, prejudice, hypocrisy, ignorance, alcoholism, and other drugs, craving for wealth, jealousy, cruelty, snatching, adultery, gambling, and many other disorders have been created by my mind since my birth till now from my ecosystem. If this wall of vices is not broken with the blessings of divine virtues from the Guru, I cannot unite with God inside.

kabeer paanee hoo-aa ta ki-aa bha-i-aa seeraa taataa ho-ay.
Kabeer, what then, if one could become water? It becomes cold, then hot.
har jan aisaa chaahee-ai jaisaa har hee ho-ay. ||149||
The humble servant of the Lord should be just like the Lord. ||149||
Kabir ji says that to be united with God, I must have the same divine qualities as that of God.
# Because God is one and dwells in all, my mind should feel that God is pervading in all of them. Then I should not think of discriminating against anyone based on their so-called caste, colour, race, and gender.

# Because God is the Creator, I should also try to create something for the benefit of the society. Nature should not be spoiled because God is pervading in it.
# Because God is fearless then I should also be fearless. I should follow the path of truth fearlessly.
# Because God has no enmity, I should not have enmity with anyone.

# One should understand the so-called ideology of hell-heaven i.e., Reincarnation, purpose behind it, and learn the art of living a blissful life in the present from Guru Ji.

# Because God is ajoonee, we should not behave like animals, rather learn the art of living a live blissful life in present from Guru.

To unite with God, the seeker must have this loving belief that there is no difference between the teachings of Guru and laws of God as revealed through the Bani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, they are one and the same.

With a mission in mind to unite with God, let us start our spiritual journey today by giving up vices and taking divine qualities from the Guru because even laziness is called as a vice by Guru Sahib, which causes our spiritual death. To get rid of our inner vices and acquire divine qualities from Guru Ji, daily read at least three / four verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, with the meaning. Let us understand the meaning and especially the central Idea in the pause (rahaa-o).

By the grace of Guru Ji let us learn –
(A) The art of converting –
= Lust into love.
= Anger into Bir-Ras (struggle against injustice, oppression)
= Greed into contentment.
= Attachment into love and welfare of entire humanity.
= Pride into humility / self-esteem
(B) How to get rid of vices?
Finding fault with others,
gossiping –
Slander –
Laziness –
Thanklessness –
Lies –
Dominating others –
Anxiety –
Stress
Restlessness –
Hypocrisy –
Caste / race / colour / gender-based discrimination –
Ignorance –
Alcohol and other drugs addiction –
Cowardice –
Cunning / cheating –
Jealousy –
Theft –
Adultery –
Gambling –
Deprivation of alien rights –
Trishna –
Cruelty –
Illusion –
Bad company –
And many other disorders as described in SGGS.

(C) What qualities I must absorb in my personality?
Virtues such as obeying the divine command (hukam) –
Truth –
Harmony –
Creativity –
Knowledge –
Fearlessness –
No enmity –
Contentment / Patience –
Help the others in need – (Vand Shako)
Universal Brotherhood –
Forgiveness-
Sweet talk –
Courtesy –
Kindness –
Empathy –
Human equality –
Tolerance –
And many other virtues from Gurbani.

Guru Sahib has given us a chain of three golden principles to enable us to live a blissful life –
1 Naam Japo – To keep the vices away and to absorb the divine qualities in myself, always remembering God, meditating on Him because there is no difference between the divine law of God and teachings of Gurbani.
2 Kirat Karo – Work to meet my, my family’s and other basic social needs.
3 Vand Shako – support the needy.

According to the Hukam of Guru Sahib, let us introspect ourselves to find out the vices to be given up and the divine qualities to be assimilated in my conduct to be in union with God and live a blissful life.
As soon as we give up the vices and start taking divine qualities from the Guru, we feel changes and our life begins to become blissful leading to union with God.
After learning the art of living from our great Guru, on the theater of this life, we are to perform our role, as a husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, and above all, as an excellent human being, with such a passion, that applause continue, even after the curtain of our life is down !
I hope, you will convey me about more vices and virtues by searching Sri Guru Granth Saheb ji, giving reference to line/ stanza/ shabad, through this e-mail-
guidesofgurupanth@gmail.com or through answers/ comments on this site
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa,
