      Respected Brother/Sister
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

As understood by the undersigned, only Ardas can take you out of your depression because the Guru teaches us:-

The word Ardas appears in Guru Granth Sahib many times. The word Ardas is made from Persian word Arjdashat i.e. Arj + Dashat Arj means request (ਬੇਨਤੀ) and Dashat means to present (ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨਾ). Thus, Ardas is a request from a person/Sikh to Akalpurakh.

      At Panna 103 of Guru Granth Sahib, the Fifth Guru Person, Guru Arjan Sahib says: ‘ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ which means that Akalpurakh/Guru is my father, mother, every relation and protector everywhere.

Further the Sikh needs to have a strong belief that He is very kind and will help me in every situation:

Therefore, the Sikh in happy times or sad/hard times (ਦੁੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਸੁੱਖ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਗਮੀ) requests Akalpurakh for His blessings! To seek blessings of Akalpurakh is the significance of Ardas.

Here, the undersigned will like to add that the Ardas to Akalpurakh, for His blessings (i.e. moral strength), should be matched with efforts, by the individual, to get rid of his/her illness etc., if any, by going for medical treatment etc., if necessary.

The next possible step can be to change one’s life by imbibing the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, get rid of vices, become a righteous/virtuous person i.e. Gurmukh (ਸਚਿਆਰ/ਗੁਣਵਾਨ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) and achieve the stage of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ) by becoming one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are spiritually embodiment of each other. The final goal is to achieve spiritual emancipation/salvation (enlightenment) in this life itself

Hope that this helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.

      Regards,
      Your Brother
