ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਸੀ ॥

Very good question and most believe it means what we earned in our previous life cannot be erased. We don’t know what happens to us. It is all up to God. In fact that’s Vedantic philosophy, NOT Gurmat. According to Gurmat it means whole universe is under the Cosmic Law (Hukam) of the Creator God. It cannot be changed. For example, according to the Cosmic Law lion eats meat and cow eats grass. Lion will die of hunger but will never eat grass and cow will die of hunger but will never eat meat. Only humans have the freedom of choice to go with or against the Cosmic Law (Hukam) of the God. To live in harmony with Hukam is to align or re-align ones conduct and to realise what is God’s Will (Godly Virtues) to get everlasting peace. One has to overcome everyday problems of life with understanding, wisdom and conscious choices according to the spiritual teachings of the Guru (Gurmukh), not of own mind (Manmukh). It is in our hands, not God. We has the power to make choices and conscious effort to be one with God. If one fall victim to Maya, through their own choice, one cannot blame God. To write our own destiny (Lekha) we need to eradicate ego (Haume) and live life in the Rza of God’s Will (Godly Virtues). It is in our hands and we can change it, NOT anyone else. We are not puppets in the hands of the God, but of our own will. We have the free choice to rewrite our destiny (Lekha).
