ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਫਾਰਸੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਹਨ ਝੰਡਾ, ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ।ਖਾਲਸਾਈ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਝੰਡਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਫਰਕ ਹੈ।ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਥਾਨ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਲੰਗਰ ਸਥਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਸਥਾਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਣਾ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।
